Sunday, April 21, 2019: Day 5, Easter Sunday

We arose this morning to another beautiful day on the Atlantic. Mostly sunny with the head winds somewhat abated. The apparent winds were down to around 25 kts which allowed me to sit on the forward veranda and soak up some rays.

We are just over half way across, 1420 nm from Bridgetown and 1280 miles from La Palma.

We ate breakfast in the Colonnade, after which we sat around the pool until it was time for Sarah's Bridge class and my morning lecture with Edward Marks...no they did not throw him overboard as I had hoped.

His lecture was on terrorism. I was not impressed...again. His opinions were the kind that you could find on any editorial page and lacked any novel insight. As with the last lecture he gave, when he ran out of things to say, he opened the discussion up to the audience. As you might expect (and certainly he did), this led to a confused and meaningless series of grandstanding proclamations from the peanut gallery. But it ate up time which is undoubtedly what he wanted to happen.

Sarah and I met for lunch on the patio pool side. They were having a caviar and champagne party. The ship's compliment marched out with a surf board ladened with a large bowl of caviar. They literally marched into the pool and began serving plates of caviar to anyone who would journey into the pool.

Sarah and I did not, but I did retrieve a couple of glasses of champagne for us. It was very noisy and rowdy. Sarah retired to the room and I stayed a bit longer to appreciate the mayhem.

When I got back to the room, we had been visited by the Easter bunny.

Just before 2:00 pm, Sarah took off for her afternoon water colors class and I went to Cpt. Tom's Maritime lecture on Lighthouses. Afterwards, I adjourned to the forward veranda and read the afternoon away. Sarah went to the 4:00 pm tea. Before she left, she pointed out that apparently, we had done a zig zag in course, which might explain why the wind was calmer.

This evening we ate at the Restaurant. We both had the rack of lamb. Very good.
